HIstory & Specifications

The Fendt Cardano bicycle is the reinvention of this mechanic drive train after it disappeared after WW2. The first patent was issued 1891 in the USA. End of the 18th century the chainless bicycle was very popular in the USA. Also in Belgium and France there was no big bicycle production company without a “acatene” model in their range. Fameous was the belgium company FN. Until 1939 the German factory Dürkopp produced cardan bicycles.

By the end of 1979 Peter Fendt and Klaus Hofgärtner developped a cardan drive train for bicycles and founded a company in 1980. Peter, by the way, was related to the fameous family Fendt who built tractors for agriculture. The first version came 1981 on the market, but had some typical “teething problems”. This model from the second series was equipped with a chrome molybdanium steel frameset and even a rear suspension, a 5-speed hub gear and the first generation Magura hydraulic rim brake for the front wheel.

This very well maintained Fendt Cardano Comfort had one owner and came with a full  documentation like brochures, leaflets, pricelist and receipts. The gear shifting is adjusted, a rubber dynamo cap is mounted, the front hub and head set had been cleaned and filled with fresh grease. The Magura brake pads are also replaced and the bike is ready to ride.
