History & Specifications

The bicycle company B. Schild & Cie. started his business in 1894 in the bilingual city of Biel/Bienne and is among the first ever started bicycle production companies in Switzerland. The father was in the watchmaking business, but the son Theodor Schild studied Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. When working in Birmingham, England he got in touch with the young bicycle industry. He was deeply impressed and started in autumn 1894 his business. The company was engaged early to support professionals. The Cosmos brand gained a very good reputation. This particular bicycle is a touring bike with a 1936 Oscar Egg Super Champion 3-speed derailleur. The frame was probably build by Mondia in Balsthal, Switzerland, the crankset might has been produced inhouse, Weinmann Super Sport brakes, stainless steel DT Swiss rims and fenders and Edco hubs are other components from Switzerland. The rack, the dynamo, the lighting system and the sidestand were added later, probably due to new traffic regulations in the 1950s. The bike is very original, a Lohmnan leather saddle and a electrical cable were the only parts replaced.

This Cosmos Sport touring bicycle is presented in the premium book «kick into next gear» in great detail.
