Condor Typ 60, 1937, Switzerland
History & Specifications
Condor SA in the region Jura belongs to the pioneers of Swiss bicycle production. Founded in the year 1893 in Courfaivre by the French Edouard Scheffer, initially as a fabrication of watch tool factory. In the same year his brother Jules joined the company and the factory now was named Scheffer Frères. In 1901 the name was changed to Manufacture Suisse des Cycles et Motos. later to Condor-Werke-AG. From 1904 on Condor produced bicycles for the postal service and for the Swiss military. Condor became also fameous for their Condor racing motorcycles, the Swiss military motorcycles and as th Swiss representative of Ducati, Italy.
This Condor Typ 60 is based on a racing frame and many racing bicycle components. The Condor log book declares the bicylce as sport-touring bicycle that was delivered to Engelberg in Switzerland. During use the original Super Champion derailleur and shifter was replaced by a Huret Allvit derailleur and shifter. I was fortunate to buy a NIB Super Champion derailleur set model Tour de France 1937, the first derailleur that was allowed in 1937 for the Tour de France race. Remarkable are the earliest Dunlop clincher rims with stamped patent nr. Also the tyres are still those from the 1950s and they keep the air.
This bicycle was carefully curated and a complete mechanical overhaul was done. All original components are in good condition and the paint and decals are original.
This Condor Sport touring bicycle is presented in the premium book «kick into next gear» in great detail.
