History & Specifications

One of Walter Röhrl's greatest vitories on Audi Quattro was 1987. He won the legendary hill race "Pikes Peak" in the Rocky Mountains. The Quattro management was so thrilled about the victory, so they were looking for something very particular to celebrate Walter Röhrl's great success. They must have been liked mountainbikes and were searching for an extraordinary model that would be appropriate to Röhrl's achivement.

In 1988 the Marin County based Marin MTB factory has released their first titanium MTB, the Marin Team Titanium. The frame geometry was developped by multiple MTB champion Joe Murray, the frameset was produced by Litespeed. To recall. The first commercially available racing bike and track framesets made of titanium were produced by the beginning of the 1970s. The first ever made MTB titanium frame was from 1986. Pioneers like the Linskey Brothers in Tennesse, Merlin und Litespeed produced the first series of MTB titanium framesets. The first few Marin Team Titanium framesets for Joe Murray were produced by Linskey Brothers in Tennesse. Later, Litespeed was commissioned to produce the frames. The Marin Team Titanium was tested 1989 in detail by a MTB magazine and got excellent results. To see the article, click on the image.

Marin Team Titanium MTB 1989 Testbericht

The German representative of Marin Bikes, the company Delta Sports at Nürnberg was commissioned by Quattro, to order 150 of these exclusive MTB. The framesets came from Litespeed and the frame number gives teh exact date of production. Still today you can contact the company and they will look up the framenumber in their registry. Frame number 2235 was listed as a Marin Team Titanium, manufactured in July 1989. The bikes were labelled with Quattro Pikes Peak decals and got a second number of the edition. This frameset is number Q018. Equipped with a complete 1989 Shimano Deore XT -II group, 3 x 7-fach indexed shifting.

I even could locate and talk to the former bike mechanic at Delta Sports. He claimed that he himself built up the first serie of 20 Quattro Pikes Peak. They strictly controlled the edition of 150. The Quattro management orded 2 women models extra, so the total edition is 152 of this rare MTB. Of of these examples can be seen at the German Museum at Munich, Germany.

This bike is from the first owner, virually unused low mileage, very well carded and in excellent condition. The triangular tool bag is not photographed, but is there too.
